Hi,

Shortly I will be working on a new platform to me - the ARM7TDMI. The device used is yet to be chosen but could someone point me in the direction of some of the more widely used devices and a cheap development board to get me started?

ARM7 LPC2000

I have used a lot of the Philips Arm7 devices in the LPC2000 series. You don't say what its use will be but there are many many parts with different peripheral configurations. Most devices will have 10 bit ADCs, PWM and between 32 and 512kb FLASH memory.

Your choice of development board will depend on the device you choose (which will depend on the peripherals required) but if you are interested in the simpler devices then there is actually an a free schematic for a LPC2148 board at http://www.scienceprog.com/arm7-base-development-board-for-lpc2148/ Alternatively there are some FPGA annd ARM development boards available at http://www.knjn.com/ShopBoards_USB2.html which I have used and are very good (simple, but useful for integrating into other electronics).
